There were two figures. Two shadows of a tall man and a tall woman. A picture of a man extending his arm around the woman’s back, with his hand holding the tip of her shoulder. She was holding her two arms close to her chest, her hands clasped as if she was praying.
Two shadows. One was talking another was listening; one explaining and one inhaling the words slowly, smiling slowly and quietly.
Then the bodies departed, yet attached with the words floating in the air. A tear-drop on one of the cheeks, an angry look in two eyes set; and a quiet smile on one face.
The words are finally heard.
“I am not in love with you; I am not in love with anyone in that matter. I don’t love you.”
She lowered her eyes, was trying to hide her tears away; her quiet smile was still there. How to describe the love inside her, how to explode with that warming fire burning her; how to explain that his hug floats her to a world of whispers, her head on his chest to a world of dreams; how to explain that she has only been in love with him, only him, all of her life, how can to explain?
She looked at him, straightened her back, unclasped her hands, lowered her eyes, passed her palm on her cheek and wiped that tear; and with her smiling face she said “Goodbye”. With her heart bleeding and screaming inside her, and her head deep with sadness, whispering “don’t just leave, tell him your love, explain your desire to hold him tight, and burn his cheeks with the warmth of your love”.
She left him standing, with his look of despair, his look of need, exposing his realization of the power of his love to her, learning from her quiet smile how much he loved her, and hurting from her single tear.
He was looking at her not knowing if to call her, not knowing if to say the magic words to stop the time, to stop her from leaving. He kept quiet, admitting his defeat, admitting his loss.
She left, with a single half wiped tear, a single phrase, and a loving quiet smile.
Two shadows of two people in love, two shadows of two people far apart.
This is beautiful. And so heartbreaking.
